My Bloody Valentine - Live In Japan 1991

With the exellent news that My Bloody Valentine will be returning next year with some live shows and apparently a brand new album (and it really does appear to be happening this time) I thought it would be good to remind ourselves how good they really were. There seems to be two types of My Bloody Valentine fan, those who prefer "Isn't Anything" and the sound around 1989 and those who believe "Loveless" was their defining moment. I'm definately in the latter category and remember being totally overawed by the band around 1990/91, well I was only a spotty seventeen year old and I had never heard anything like it. My only concern about the band re-forming is that if there is a new album it's going to be hyped up to hell and peoples expectations are going to be far more than any record could ever deliver, still be nice to see them back on stage again. I'm sure the sound will be fantastic.

This is a bootleg recorded in Osaka, Japan in November 1991 as part of the Loveless tour. The sound although not perfect is pretty good. I'm sure if the band can play like this then no-one will be dissapointed.

1. Cosmicdust - Meditation (CD-R) This is probably my favorite album at the moment. It’s been getting some serious hammer on the i-pod all week. “Snow Noise Assemblage” is the title and you’re life is incomplete without it, unfortunately it seems quite tricky to find. I’ll try to find out if there are any plans afoot to re-issue it in any form and if not I may well post the entier album here.
2. The High Violets - Cool Green (Reverb) From the album “To Where You Are”. buy here) The High Violets will be releasing a remix album in November through Reverb Records which will feature remixes of tracks from both “To Where You Are” and their previous album “44 Down”.

Grouper - Cover The Windows & The Walls

Download Here
This is the latest album by Portland's favorite daughter Liz Harris and her rather wonderful Grouper. It was only released a couple of months ago but thanks to there only been a few hundred copies, all of which on lovely vinyl it is already almost impossible to find.

This is actually the third Grouper album and as far as I'm concerned the best by far.

I've ripped these files directly from the vinyl and there is a little bit of surface noise at times (the pressing, not my lack of care) but Personally I think it just adds to the atmosphere.

2. Jessamine - Ordinary Sleep (Kranky) Taken from the bands 1997 debut album.

4. Grouper - Heart Current (Root Strata) As promised last week here’s a track from the latest Grouper Offering “Cover The Windows & The Walls”. I’m not entierly sure but I think I’m correct in saying this release is on vinyl only and limited to 300 and has sold out. 9. Screen Vinyl Image - The Midnight Sun (Safranin Sound) Taken from "The Midnight Sun" ep. Buy Here

Ride - Coming Up For Air

Bit of a curiosity this. It was recorded in 2002 with the intention of being used as a soundtrack to a Channel 4 music documentary called Pioneers. For one reason or another the music was never used so the band pressed up 1000 copies and released it as a limited edition EP the following year.

A few people have been asking me for this recording. It dates back to 1995 and for some inexplicable reason has never seen an official release. There is actually some really good stuff on here. "Like Up" and the remix of "Blue Skied An Cleared" stand out for me but the whole thing is well worth the price of admission.

1. Monotone - Kiss Me Awake (Wurlitzer Jukebox) This is a 7" single from a few years ago. I think some of their singles have recently been released as a cd compilation but I have as yet to find a copy.
2. A Place To Bury Strangers - Don't Think Lover () The band will be releasing a ten track cd next month through Killer Pimp Records. I hear they are supporting The Jesus & Mary Chain at some point as well.
3. Alcest - Ciel Errant (Profound Lore) From the bands debut album "Souvenirs d'un autre monde". Out 3rd August. This is the track I keep coming back to. Not sure if you can order it yet but try HERE
4. Jessica Bailiff - Helpless (Bad Jazz) This is one of the most hauntingly beautiful tracks ever commited to vinyl. It has just been re-issued on a Jessica Bailiff compilation called "Old Things" which if your not familiar with Jessica Bailiff would be a very good purchase. Apart from this track there are at least three more which make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. Buy Here
5. Secret Shine - Temporal (Sarah) From the album "After Years". Buy Here
6. The Sky Drops - Now Would Be (Skydrops) Taken from the "Clouds Of People" ep. Buy Here

9. The Emerald Down - Red Shift (Pop Sound) From the briliant 2001 album "Scream The Sound".
10. My Bloody Valentine - Sugar (The Catalogue) Not sure if this track ever got an official release. If not it certainly should have. This version comes from a flexi disc which was given away free with an issue of The Catalogue magazine back in 1989. According to Kevin Shields there could well be a new My Bloody Valentine album next year....now where have I heard that before?

Explosions In The Sky - Live at The Grey Eagle, 14th March 2007

What a great sounding gig this is. It was recorded at The Grey Eagle which is in the City of Ashville, North Carolina near the Smoky Mountains National Park. Never been there but it sounds beautiful. The latest album "All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone" is also a beautiful work and if you enjoy this recording I strongly advise you to make the purchase.

Boo Radleys - Ichabod & I

This was the first record from Liverpool's Boo Radleys. The reason for this post is that people keep asking me on almost a weekly basis if I have a copy of Ichabod & I and I dont think it will do much harm to post the whole thing now since there were only ever 500 copies pressed and as far as I know it has never been re-issued. It's a shame really because this is a brilliant record.
Enjoy.

Tremelo 1

Here we are then yet another new music blog. This one's a bit different though. I spend half my time trawling through the internet looking for new bands who have THAT sound. I suppose you'd probably label it Shoegaze or Dreampop or something, whatever. Anyway the purpose of this site is to save you the time and trouble of having to do that. Basically I'm going to post a playlist roughly every week containing tracks from both new and old bands. The emphasis will of course be more towards new bands and I'll also try so stay away from the more commercial bands out there. Where possible I'll post a link to a place where you can purchase the record because, and this is the important bit, If you like it buy it. Bands can't make music for free you know. If anyone wants to make any contributions or submissions to the site please get in touch. Anyway on with the music.
